Do you like figures with crap articulation, far inferior than anything else by today's standards? Then you're in luck because Hasbro has decided to get in the "Way Back Machine"-- all the way back to 1977-- and do Kenner Style Star Wars figures! But these aren't tributes. They hold no charm or homage. They just represent the cheapest and most cost effective making method possible. Five. Point. Articulation.
As much as I consider these figures pure crap, they may still make cheap, affordable figure for kids and parents who want to allow their children to get something as an impulse buy. And, thankfully, Hasbro is still producing the higher-end figures (akin the Vintage line) in the form of the upcoming Star Wars: The Black Series (both in 3.75" and a brand-new 6").
If you're a completist, you may like these figures regardless of anything else. But, for this blogger and life-long toy collector, I find them fairly insulting.
Thanks to www.rebelscum.com for the pics.
Price and release date TBA.
They have some charm to them in terms of the vintage feel, and personally I don't see anything less unappealing about this type of production for Star Wars figures than I do about the upcoming vintage style Alien figures - And everyone is raving about how they're looking forward to the latter.
ReplyDeleteFor mint in package collectors, these are certainly a good bit of eye candy. The packaging is some of the best I've seen for a Star Wars line in a long time.
