TOY NEWS FOR 2/2/2016 - MATTEL/MATTY COLLECTOR - HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE - CLASSICS 2.0 ANIMATION (FILMATION) SERIES PACKAGING REVEALED

I watched just about every episode of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe as a kid, although I don't know why because I don't think I liked it at all. I always wished that the characters were as cool and fierce and mature as they were in the mini-comics and in my mind when I played with the figures.

That being said, there's certainly a large appeal for Mattel's reboot of the Master of the Universe Classics line with the all-Filmation styled figures.

I was on the fence about whether or not I wanted to pick these up (either individually on eBay or through mattycollector.com), but the packaging for these figures is so awesome that I think I'm going to have to get them, or at least some of the main characters.

Here's a closer look at He-Man himself which uses the standard MOTU "buck" with a new Filmation styled head and accurate animation colors and costume.

This new figure line starts in Feb with the release of He-Man ($25.00) and a new figure being released every other month. I assume that if this reboot goes well that Mattel will make the line monthly again in 2017.

Here's a look at the free poster that will be shipping along with Castle Grayskull to those that pre-ordered it last year.

I think this is a pretty cool idea! The only downside is that, as more figures come out, the poster will become incomplete.

Here are the final two reveals will be getting for this year. We won't see any more until Toy Fair in February.

Once again, we have some fantastic looking figures, thanks to the talented sculpting and design of the Four Horsemen, but I'm not really doing back-flips for these two.

I don't buy the New Adventures characters, and while I collect the Prince of Power figures, I don't know them well enough to get all the excited.

But, we've really only got a handful of characters left from the original MOTU line that have yet to be produced, so figures like this will continue to be a major part of the line until its [probable] conclusion in 2015.

Skeletor will include the previously teased "battle-damaged" Faker head as an accessory!

TOY NEWS 11/13/2012 - CASTLE GRAYSKULL WILL BE MADE!!!

If you're one of the hard-core fans who already ordered this, then I'm certainly not the first place you're hearing this from-- but it was announced today that the quota of orders needed to push Castle Grayskull into production has been met!

If you're one of the procrastinating collectors who didn't help to get this thing made, then you have until Jan 4th to order yours on the Matty Collector web site.

I'm personally stoked to hear this news! Can not wait to see the 4H's first shot at this thing! I'm sure by SDCC 2013 we'll be getting our first look at the finalized design that will be going into production in time to ship by the end of 2013.

Remember-- all you need to do it save a mere $25 a month from now until Grayskull's release next year in order to cover the full cost of the playset, tax (if applicable) and shipping (within the US)-- so you can get one of these fairly easily! It's pricey, yes, but you have a full year to save!

Yeah... this is gonna be so cool.

[NOT] TOY NEWS FOR 11/12/2012 - MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE CLASSIC CASTLE GRAYSKULL.... NEVER TO BE???

Well, here we are, less than six hours left to go and it looks like (according to the Matty Collector site) we're still a good distance from reaching the pre-order goal in order for this playset to go into production.

I don't know what's left to be said to convince you to order this set if you haven't already.

To come this close and fall just short of this set ever being made is heart-breaking for all the real MOTU fans out there-- especially the ones (like myself) who pre-ordered it in the hopes of making this the centerpiece of their MOTU Classics collection.

I'm not 100% sure that the Matty site is updated in real-time with each new order, so there may still be a chance, but I'm not holding out much hope at this point.

Here's one last look at what will probably be all we'll ever see if this dream playset.

TOY NEWS FOR 10/19/2012 - FUNCO MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE "FIGURES"

So here's something kinda cool for those of you (us) that have been waiting and wanting for Mattlel/Matty Collector to release those dang cool looking MOTU mini figures that they showed at SDCC 2011.

Sadly, we'll probably never see these figures.

While there's no release date on the horizon for those figures, there is something comparable (although not as bad-ass looking) heading our way.

Funco-- who has released these same type of figures based on several other well known toy lines over the past few years-- have finally made their way around to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Normally, these kinds of figures don't really do anything for me, but for some reason, the MOTU characters just seem to translate into this cutesy little art-toy style.

I'm assuming that if these do well that we may see other characters later down the line, but in the meantime, Funco was good enough to give us all the major characters in he first go-around!

TOY NEWS FOR 10/16/2012 - MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE CLASSICS CASTLE GRAYSKULL

 

So, do you want a Castle Grayskull to go with your new Masters of the Universe Classics figures?

I'm guessing that you said "yes".

Now, do you want to spend $250 for it?

Hmmm. Not so easy to answer, huh?

How about shipping? Tax? Ready to pay almost $300 for it when all is said and done?

If you're an international buyer, are you ready to pay $200 in shipping, plus the $250 for the playset, plus probably another $50 in customs fees?

Wow. This isn't looking so good...

Well, here's the deal, Mattel is asking you to commit your money to this playset based only on what is called a "B-Sheet", or blueprint sheet. But, if you really look at this sheet-- and you trust the Four Horsemen (sculptors of the Masters of the Universe line)-- then you'll see how probable it is that this thing will stand above and beyond any other playset made in history. (Okay, the GI Joe Defiant or USS Flagg could be valid arguments.)

Looking at the blueprints, it's clear to see that it will have tons of amazing features. And look at those dimensions-- 25"X26"X28"! This thing is gonna be huuuuuuuge.

But here's the catch, we gotta make this thing happen.

This set is not green lit. Not a single inch of it has even been sculpted. It falls to us-- the MOTU fans-- to make this happen by committing our $250 right now for this set to be produced and in our hands by Dec 2013 at the latest.

Luckily, you won't actually be charged until this thing is ready to ship. But again, you are buying this thing sight-unseen, and based on faith in Mattel, the Four Horsemen and a drawing.

I think I'm ready to commit.

I stopped my subscription two years ago because I only want the original character, and half my committed funds were going towards characters that I didn't care about. So, it became cheaper to buy what I wanted on the aftermarket. But this is different.

Here you commit your funds and you know exactly what you're getting-- Castle Grayskull, sculpted by the Four Hoursmen and the perfect jewel in the crown of your collection-- MOTU or otherwise. Let's face it, this thing will kick some serious ass.

Mattel says that they need just as many people to order this as order the subscription for 2013-- which almost didn't happen. Not to mention that probably 1/2 to 1/3 of the total Subs purchased each year are from re-sellers and a 20lb, $250 playset is not a profitable re-sell-able item. So what does that mean?

It means that there's a really good chance that this playset will never see life beyond this drawing. That would could have been will never be and that many, many fans will have missed out on what could have potentially been one of the most amazing and beautiful playsets ever.

If you want this thing to be made-- you must go an order it now. Don't wait for other people to do it first. Don't wait for the minimum order to be met to see if it will be made. You have to commit to this playset now. If everyone just waited to see how this played out, it wouldn't play out at all.

Let's make this thing happen.

TOYS NEWS FOR 10/13/2012 - MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE CLASSICS - CLAMP CHAMP & NEW ADVENTURES HE-MAN

Here is some very cool new coming out of the NYCC going on this weekend. Mattel was there to show off all their new and upcoming product, including these two new additions to the Masters of the Universe Classic lines: Clamp Champ and He-Man from The New Adventures of He-Man.

Both figures look outstanding-- as most figures from this line do (whether they're actually characters I care about or not.)

Clamp Champ is a must own for any collector buying all the original characters, but this new He-Man is a bit of a surprise in how awesome he actually looks!

I had no interest in the New Adventures line as a kid, and I didn't have an interest in those characters in the new Classics line either, but that He-Man looks-- I mean, wow-- really nice! I'm really caught off guard by how much I actually love the look of this figure!

I know this version of He-Man was one of the most fan demanded figures next to Ram Man since the line started, so I'm sure there are plenty of fans who are anxiously awaiting July of 2013 when this figure will be released. And the best/worst part is that Mattel did a special ball joint on his wrist so that he can hold his sword in that classic He-Man pose! Best for this figure-- and worst for our original He-Man who should have had this feature, too! I doubt that Mattel will do another run of the original He-Man with this new ball joint since they already have a glut of He-Man's that they're trying to sell on Mattcollector, but it sure would be great to have!!!
