It's a fun time to be a GI Joe fan again!
After years and years of wondering if we'd ever see Joe again-- if Hasbro had forgotten the brand that built them in the first place!-- there's now more GI Joe than you can even keep up with!
Today, the Joe team over at Hasbro gave us some updates and new reveals.
Starting off the livestream today, they revealed (with no images yet) two more figures that will be coming to "Classified" in 2023. Next year, we can expect to see two water based characters. For the Cobras, they will adding Copperhead to their ranks. To combat him, the Joes will be getting Torpedo.
I don't know how many "new" figures we'll be seeing (in various states of development) in June, but they came on strong revealing five new ones. Also, they let us know that, starting with this specific wave, the wave assortments will jump from three new figures per wave to five new figures.
It seems that GI Joe is going really well right now, and that means more figures and more characters for years to come! I have to wonder if ll of those Joe collectors that swore that they'd never want or collect a 6" scale GI Joe line have started collecting these figures after all. I know a lot of new collectors have come into the brand due to the 6" scale.
But, I'll digress and get back to the reveals.
Heading our way in 2023 are... Cover Girl (!), a "Crimson BAT" (which is associated with the Crimson Guard and all the reds will match), Falcon (awesome!), the original version of Outback, and, finally, a Slaughter's Marauders version of Barbecue (eeehhhh...).
They also showed off some in-hand images of the highly anticipated Sgt Slaughter figure, along with is very special mystery accessory-- which is a mini, carded figure of himself! He'll also include the famous accessories of his whistle and baton along with... an AK-47? An odd choice for Sarge, especially considering that it's a rifle mainly associated with communist armies. But, there's plenty of other weapons to give him. Sarge will also come with a bunch of extra hands so you can pose him in various ways.
There were a few things revealed that are up for pre-order now at most major online retailers as I type this.
First up is that Snake Eyes and Timber that was revealed a few months back. This was an easy pass for me when I first saw the digital renders, but after seeing him all posed out and on display, especially with that shemagh (scarf) and I ended up pre-ordering him after all.
This one will cost you $44.99 and is set to ship in January of 2023.
For the vintage O-Ring style fans (or newcomers), the already revealed 2-Pack of Duke and Cobra Commander is now up for pre-order exclusively on Hasbro Pulse.
This set has a retail price of $41.99 and is set to ship in November.
The final reveal that is also up for pre-order now is another set in the GI Joe x Transformers series. This time out it's Stalker with Bumblebee (shoulda been Hound!) as the AWE Striker. This one will cost you $68.99 and is set to ship in February of 2023.
That wraps up this week of Yo Joe June! They did announce that Hasbro will indeed be attending San Diego Comic-Con this year. They also teased a big highly wanted item that will be revealed and go up for pre-order at the end of June. I'm guessing that it will be Serpentor with his Air Chariot. I hope I'm right!
