Here are some better close-up pictures of Kirk and Spock. You can definitely see a bit of both the actor's likenesses in the sculpts, but still with that bit of "anime" flair in them. While I still wish they were more realistic and accurate, I think these better pics have raised my hope for these figure a little more.

Well, I guess we'll all just have to live with the fact that likenesses just aren't Play Art' forte'. (As their recent Superman from Man of Steel clearly showed.)
I'm certainly excited to have some nice high-end figures from the new Star Trek films, and am down to buy these Kirk and Spock figures, but those damn head sculpts do bother me. PA's [actor] likenesses on live-action films still continue to look too "anime" to me. And the heads are also a bit too small...
Hmmmm... Maybe I'll have to wait to see them in person before I decide for sure if I'm going to spend the $70 bucks each on them.
(Special thanks to the good folks over at toyark.com for the beautiful photos!!)
As iffy as the anime-style head sculpts are, it's the obvious ribcage joints that thoroughly bug me!
ReplyDeleteThese figures have a lot of issues... The weird head sculpts, the lanky bodies, the small heads, the price. The torso joint doesn't bother me too badly, but it's certainly something that could have been done better with a little extra effort. I'll probably end up passing on them, myself.
