There's no doubt that this is yet another amazing looking figure from Hot Toys. But, that's where my compliments on the idea of this figure ends...
To no fault of Hot Toys' (obviously), I find this figure to be a complete waste.
I can't imagine that anyone reading this blog hasn't seen Iron Man 3 yet, but if you haven't then I'll warn you that there are SPOILERS AHEAD.
For those not familiar with the Mandarin from the Marvel Comics, you might be asking yourself, "who the heck is this guy?"
Well, to put it in simple terms, he's what Dr Doom is to the Fantastic Four. What Green Goblin is to Spider-Man. What Red Skull is to Captain America.
The Mandarin is one of Iron Man's most powerful, brilliant and deadliest foes. He possesses ten rings, all of which he wears at once with each possessing a different power. He's also a brilliant tactician and ruthless dictator and he is not a fan of Tony Stark/Iron Man.
So, being who he is in the Marvel Universe, and what he represents in Iron Man's history (the Mandarin has been around almost as long as Iron Man) his treatment in Iron Man 3 thoroughly disappointed and disgusted me.
Yes, bravo to the filmmakers for keeping a lid on such a huge red herring, but jeers to them for turning one of Iron Man's most iconic foes into a complete joke.
This is not the Mandarin. This is a goofball, idiot parody of Ringo Star as an actor or some such nonsense. It was brilliantly played by Ben Kingsley, but as The Mandarin, this figure is absolutely pointless.
Anyway, that's just my opinion.
