TOY NEWS FOR 2/20/2016 - TOY FAIR 2016 - DC COLLECTIBLES - DC FILMS

DC Collectibles announced a brand-new premium line of action figures at Toy Fair based solely on DC's film franchise called, obviously enough, DC Films.

The figures will feature an unprecedented amount of articulation and other premium extras like alternate hands, cloth capes and and articulated action figure stand with each figure. The packaging will also go much further than something you'd see at normal retail.

The line will "jump around" between various films (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, so far), so they won't be tackling one film at a time.

This new "premium" figure will also carry a premium price, but that's the cost of getting the kind of figure that collectors really want. This is how it's done in the Japanese toy market, and I'm glad that DC Collectibles is following suit. You will still have your regular priced DC film figures from Mattel and the like, but if you want something more than your standard $20 figure, then this is a wonderful option.

The line will also include characters that normally wouldn't be seen in a retail line, like Lois Lane.

The figures will range between $45 and $50 will some larger figures (Doomsday perhaps?) being more.

Kicking things off will be almost the entire line-up of major characters from Man of Steel.

There was a definite overall trend of many companies focusing on the collector's market with their showings at Toy Fair this year. In fact, Todd McFarlane said that he was asked (presumedly by Toys R Us) to offer a more premium 7" figure line and move away from the cheaper 5" figures.

I think that a lot of big box stores are finally realizing the power of the "collector" and that not every "toy" is purchased for a child.

If we weren't as strong a force as we are (and growing, I think) then a line like DC Films just wouldn't be possible. I'm not a huge DC fan, but I might pick up a few of the major character. Regardless, I truely hope that this line does well, because if it does then I expect that we'll see more stuff like this from other companies, as well.
