TOY NEWS FOR 2/28/2014 - NECA - PACIFIC RIM - GYPSY DANGER 2.0 DESIGNS

Thank the toy gods above that NECA is releasing a brand-new versions of Gypsy Danger from Pacific Rim. Compared to their other, more recent Jaegers, Gypsy just doesn't hold up.

This new version will come with two sets of interchangeable hands along with his arm cannon. He will also be slightly larger than the original release to put him in a more proper scale to the other figures. (see pic)

You can see from the design below that his arm and head are also swapable to recreate the damage he took while fighting Knifehead at the beginning of the film. This new figure will not feature those items in order for NECA to keep the cost below $20, however you can fully expect to see a second version of 2.0 GD with these parts in another wave.

Gypsy Danger 2.0 will be part of Pac Rim Series 5 which has a tentative early summer release date.

TOY NEWS FOR 2/28/2014 - MEDICOM - MAFEX - STAR WARS ANNOUNCEMENT

This news is weeks old, but it's also kind of fringe news, so maybe there are still those of you who haven't heard yet.

Japanese toy company Medicom-- who already produce 1/6 Star Wars figures-- will be adding Star Wars to their smaller, highly articulated Mafex line.

These are in the 6" scale-- just like Hasbro's Black Series-- so it will be interesting to see how they stack up to Hasbro's versions-- which I absolutely love.

More news as it becomes available.

TOY NEWS FOR 2/28/2014 - MAX FACTORY - FIGMA - AVENGERS - THOR

As I mentioned before, I was pretty excited about this line of Figma Avengers figures when they were first show in prototype form almost a year ago, but it seems like there are coming a little late at this point.

I absolutely love the film, but I've already added so many movie Avengers figures to my collection already, do I really want to spend $80 each on these new ones?

Ehhhhhhh.... I don't know.

So far, we know that Thor, Cap and Iron Man Mk VII are on the way, and a prototype for the Hulk was also shown. But what about Hawkeye and Black Widow? I'm not looking for an incomplete Avengers team.

Maybe if the others are confirmed I'll grab the Figma versions, but otherwise it's an absolute pass for me.

Thor is set for a July release for $79.99

TOY NEWS FOR 2/23/2014 - NECA - GODZILLA - 1994 GODZILLA

Man, NECA nailed Godzilla with this figure!

I have been wanting to add some Godzilla figures to my collection for some time, since I grew up watching his movies almost every weekend of my childhood. But, there are so many Bandai Godzillas out there that I just hadn't yet found the time to figure out which one(s) I really wanted.

But now, I think I'll be completely happy with NECA's version(s).

This Godzilla is in the 6" figure scale, but measures 12" from head to tail!

Also in this assortment will be a 1985 Godzilla (from "Return of Godzilla") and Godzilla from "Godzilla vs Space Godzilla".

These will also accompany the previously announced original 1954 Godzilla and the new version from the upcoming US movie.

The figures are set to start shipping in July for a price of around $20.00 each.

TOY NEWS FOR 2/22/2014 - SIDESHOW COLLECTIBLES - STAR WARS - 1/6 SCALE CAPTAIN REX (PHASE II ARMOR) and BATTLE DROIDS

Three new 1/6 scale Star Wars offerings were recently announced from Sideshow Collectibles.

The first is Captain Rex in the Phase II Clone Armor. If there's one thing that Sideshow kicks some serious ass at in their 12" figure lines it's doing these kinds of troopers.

The second and third offerings are everyone's favorites (read that very sarcastically)-- Battle Droids.

They will be available as a single figure [Geonosis Battle Droid with Count Dooku Hologram] and a 2-Pack [Geonosis Battle Droid Set].

Rex will be released in January of 2015 for $169.99

The single Battle Droid will be released in October for $129.99, while the set of two is has a September release date, also for a price of $129.00.

All are available now for pre-order on Sideshow's site.
