No Shredder, no Splinter... No April O'Neil, no Casey Jones...
No, instead, this year, we'll be getting all four Turtles styled after the 1990 live-action movie.
This is retail muscle at work. Why aren't we getting other much needed characters but instead getting more of the Turtles themselves? The answer is simple: because Toys R Us (the main carrier of the line) wants Ninja Turtles on their shelves, not Splinters and Shredders. And, the best way of Playmates to get us Splinter and Shredder is for the next wave (this wave) of Turtles to sell well-- and they probably will, to both kids and adults.
So, if this wave does well enough, the good news is that TRU will probably support another wave (like they did with Bebop and Rocksteady) and that will allow Playmates to get other characters into the Classics line.
Sure, it's easy to think, "screw you, Playmates!" but when you look at the big picture, this decision might actually benefit us all in the long-run.
