Tomb Raider was one of those games that changed the landscape of console gaming when it first arrived on the PS1. Since then, there have been many sequels, but over the years, the game became repetitive and lame and the brand began to lose its luster.
Eidos then took the game away from developer Core Design and gave it to Crystal Dynamic who has been slowly been bringing Lara back to her former glory.
With this new game, Eidos takes Lara back to her origins with a new hyper realistic look. I'd assume that this is a re-boot of the franchise with all subsequent games moving from this point forward. Also, it looks like Crystal Dynamics paid very close attention to what Naughty Dog did with the Uncharted series-- which has to be one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had by far.
Moving on to the figure, I'm not quite as excited her as it features all the things that Square Enix is the weakest at accomplishing with their figures. 1) It's a female figure 2) it has a lot of exposed flesh.
The figure looks decent, but not great. I personally think it has the "plastic-y" quality that far too many Square figures have. It just doesn't look right on flesh. I'd be curious to see it in person once it's released, but I'm thinking that if NECA does a version-- especially with that translucent flesh plastic that they've been using-- that NECA's version will be superior and way, way cheaper.
Look for Lara to be released in April. Price TBD.
