So, how badly do you want an Ecto-1 for your Mattel Ghostbusters figures?
Enough to pay, say, $215.00?
No, that's not a typo. An Ecto-1 vehicle for your 6" Ghostbusters will cost you a cool 215 if you'd like one. Oh, and you have to pre-order it. And it might not get made unless there are enough pre-orders.
I sat in on the Mattypalooza panel at SDCC when this was announced. I was super-excited and totally down to get one, but I knew the price was gonna be steep. I though maybe somewhere near or just over the 100 dollar mark. Imagine my surprise when I was more than 100 dollars off!
Look, I love me some Ghostbusters, but honestly, Mattel's figures are....okay. They're far from great. But with nothing else out there, they'll do for now. But to drop the cost of a Hot Toys figure on an Ecto-1 for them...? Yeah... that's just not gonna happen.
I'll be damn surprised if this thing gets enough orders to move forward, but I guess stranger things have happened.
If you'd like to order one, you can do so here. These is also a "meter" that shows how the pre-orders are progressing and how close Mattel is to hitting the mark to have the vehicle green-lit into production.
Oh, and since none of your current figures will fit in the vehicle due to their backpacks being non-removable, Mattel is offering a Ray and Peter with removable backpacks so you can put them in the Ecto-1 and then go "vroom vroom" as you play with it in the middle of your living room floor. (Seriously, do you need to put the figures in there??)
But this isn't something where they are "sweetening the pot" by including the figures with the vehicle (which might actually help.) No, instead you get to be lucky enough to buy them on the Matty site for an extra $25 each! Wow! Thanks, Mattel!
You can buy all three pieces bundled together for no discount-- other than saving on shipping. Oooohhhhh....
