With thanks to the good geeks over at toynewsi.com we get our first look at what we can expect to see in Series 3 of the TMNT Classics line-- 1990 Movie Turtles! (Just a look at Leo so far.)
Yeah................ Hm. Yay.
This is just one of those things that toy companies do these days... They reuse old molds as much as possible as a way of making up for production costs, but the gamble is that using the same molds over and over-- and essentially releasing the same figures over and over in different paint apps-- could kill the line, thus actually preventing the future that the company is trying to ensure by using this cost cutting method. It's a major gamble in my opinion.
So, will repaints, some new heads, and calling them "Movie Turtles" be entice enough kids/collectors to buy these, thus giving us a chance of seeing a possible Shredder or Splinter in Series 4? Well, that is the question, isn't it?
Personally, I'm not getting this wave. No movie Turtles for me. But if Wave 4 has some new characters in some new sculpts, I'll be down 100% to add them to my collection.
I wish Playmates put a little more faith in this series. I think it could be just what the adult collectors are looking for right now. But, with just about two new figures are year (this year being Bebop and Rocksteady, both pushed back to an October release) they don't really put enough out there for the line to gain the momentum that I think it could.
