After a very long wait, it looks like we'll finally soon be getting our first look at what Super7 has planned for their upcoming Godzilla Ultimates line.
Based on some Brian Flynn (owner of Super7) interviews that I saw, it looks like the Godzilla waves will come with two figures per wave. This will include a version of 'Zilla himself and his kaiju foe from the movie upon which he'll be based.
For example, a pair might be Godzilla and Destroyah from, what else, Godzilla vs Destroyah. Or it may be Godzilla and Space Godzilla, again, from the film of the same name.
We don't know as of yet which version of Godzilla we'll be getting in this first offering, or which foe he'll be paired with.
Super7 was originally going to put four figures in a ave, as they usually do, but Brian thought it would be too expensive for some collectors to keep up with, so the decision was made to limit each wave to a pair of figures.
That's right, this Godzilla Ultimates line will cost more than the average Ultimates figures due to the bulk and size of them. How much more, again, we don't know yet, but I'd expect to see prices in the $75-$100 range per figure, depending on the which version of Godzilla it is, and who the kiaju is. Obviously, someone like Biolante is going to cost more than, say, Mecha Gozilla.
I'm sure the prices will make us Godzilla fans yearn for the NECA days of Godzilla collecting, and will probably have us scratching our heads at how they were able to produce them so much cheaper than Super7 (unless there's a noticeable size difference).
I'm sure Super7 will delve into the newer (Millennium era) films first, since NECA already covered many of Godzilla's classic (Heisei/Showa era) films and they wouldn't want to offer the same figures again so soon for fear of having collectors thinking, "I already have that Godzilla, so I'll pass on this one." Plus, there's plenty of newer era films for them to tap into that have only been covered by SH Monsterarts thus far.
The second anything gets revealed, I'll be sure to bring you all the pics and info!
Are you as excited for this line as I am? Let me know!
