TOY NEWS FOR 2/19/2014 - TOY FAIR 2014 - MATTEL DISPLAY (SUPER POWERS 30th ANNIVERSARY)

I used to love the Super Powers toy line when I was younger. On my other blog (Stinny's Toy History), I even named it as #10 on my Top Ten Toy Lines of All Time.

I think it's fantastic that Mattel has decided to do some special figures celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the line. Some of the figures though... are a little odd.

Green Lanterns as the Riddler?! Huh?! A gold Superman?? What is this, the 90's?!

Anyway... Still, the Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the Kalibak(!) Collect-and-Connect figure looks incredible!! And there's even a Mr. Mxyzptlk!

The other great part of this series is the card packaging which looks just like the original! But that packing is going to cost us... These figures will sell for $30 each! And, I believe that these will be only available on MattyCollector.com, probably as part of a new subscription service.

If it goes well, I'm sure that, much like other Matty lines, that it will continue.

I'd love to collect the line, but I am not being forced into buying those stupid "filler" figures. If you want to do that at retail, then so be it. But don't charge us $30 per figure plus tax and shipping (which will bring us close to $45 per figure!) and then force me into buying a stupid Green Lantern as the Riddler.

  1. Green Lantern as Riddler is a reference to the actual Riddler Super Powers figure that was only released under the "Super Amigos" line. Essentially, it was just a repainted Green Lantern (but with black hair). Gold Superman may be an infamous bootleg reference.
