MATTEL - MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE - NEW MASTERVERSE and ORIGINS OFFICIAL IMAGES

Mattel is keeping the MOTU train moving full steam ahead, and with that in mind, they released a bunch of new images from both the Masterverse and Origins lines, including our first look at the long rumored Zodak in the Masterverse line.

Let's kick things off with the man himself-- He-Man

Okay... Everyone loved this figure when we got our first look at it, including me. Now that we're getting a closer look at it... my enthusiasm had dropped quite a bit. Why? Because of that horrible application of a wash that they put on the figure. It looks like it was applied by an amateur. A child. And that's the one they're showing us to get us to buy the figure, so I can only imagine how absolutely horrible it will look on the mass produced retail releases.

They just need to scrap the wash completely. If they want to do paint apps like they did on the Classics line-- then fine. Great, even. But this cheap looking wash is just going to ruin an otherwise great figure.

Keeping with He-Man, we're getting more pictures of Battle Armor He-Man. I thought they'd give him an additional head without the beard, but that doesn't look like it's going to be the case.

If anyone knows what it's like to carry the weight of being a hero like He-Man does, it's the latest [official] addition to the MOTU line, Sun-Man.

Here he gets the full treatment that a collector focused line deserves, including proper wings this time out.

Well, okay. There might be another hero who also carries the weight of defending the Universe, and that's He-Man's own sister-- She-Ra

This version is very reminiscent of her Classics version, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Where would a hero be without a villain to fight? Well, we won't need to worry about that, because the evil Catra will also be joining Masterverse.

Catra won't be alone. We're also getting a version of Beast-Man that can be transformed into his prototype design sketch version with a few parts swaps.

The newest defender of Eternia is also joining the Masterverse line. He-Ro was supposed to be the new face of the MOTU brand back in the 80's, but the line was cancelled before he an his companions ever hit the shelves. He's a had a few direct market iterations, but this will be his first time ever hitting actual retail pegs since being created back in 1986.

The last figure we got a look at in the Materverse line is also our first look at the character-- Zodak.

Zodak was always one of my favorite figures as a kid, and as a modern upgrade, this is the best version  of him that I've seen so far.

Moving over to Origins, we're getting more detailed images of both 200X versions of He-Man and Skeletor. These really don't look like their original figures, but the costumes are pretty much the same. Regardless, they both look like great, new versions of the characters to add some diversity to our MOTU Origins collections.

I thought that Mantenna was going to end up being a deluxe figure, but but it looks like he'll actually be a regular release.

The final two figures are also some new, detailed images that we're seeing for the first time. He-Man/Adam's father King Randor will be joining the Origins line, along with another favorite of mine as a kid, Whiplash.

The final item shown off today is one we got a glimpse of last month-- Roton. This version will differ from the original 80's Roton and will get a few upgrades. You can use this like the originally designed Roton, or, swap out a few parts and turn it into the Roton seen on the Revell model kit of the Roton from the 80's.

That wraps things up for now! Hopefully pre-orders for a lot these figures will open up soon.
