TOY FAIR 2013 COVERAGE!!!
Playmates is back! Not since the mid-90's has Playmate been this strong and, once again, it's thank to Turtle Power!
When the original line died (along with the ending of Star Trek: The Next Generation, which was Playmates other top license), Playmate went from the young, upstart, top-of-the-heap company to barely keeping their had above water. Since then, they've done a few different series of Turtles over they years, but none ever had the success of the original line. Recently they grabbed the Star Trek license once again, producing figures from J.J. Abrams Trek reboot, but the line bombed at retail. Collectors abhorred the cheap quality of the figures and the likenesses were miles off the mark.
Refocusing back on the Turtles, and with a new cartoon series on Nickelodeon, Playmates has hit the jackpot once more, and I'm happy for them. They were a huge part of my early days of adult collecting and watching them fall so far from the greatness they once were was heart-breaking.
Shown this year at Toy Fair were the two new offerings in the Classics line: Bebop and Rocksteady, along with a ton of new figures, vehicles and playsets from the cartoon series.
Word on the Classics line is this: If the collectors support the line, there will be more. They want to do more-- but they need to see that this is a worthwhile venture for them. So, it's in our hands now...
Thanks to www.toyark.com for the pics!
Man how can anybody not want these aggressive looking dudes? They look sick! I swear when i was about 11 i saw a friend of mine have the most brutal samurai looking Raphael i have ever seen and i have been searching for it ever since... I really hope this new line will quench that!
