When I was 5-6 years old, I used to love my "green army men". I had hundreds of them over the years. From there, GI Joe captured my fascination for a full decade, starting in 1982. Then came Hasbro's 12" "Hall of Fame" GI Joe figures, followed by all the re-issues of their original 60's Joes.
And so, after years of crap action figures and a glut of horrible looking toys, I picked up my first real high-end 1/6 scale figure with Dragon Model's "Hans" figure. He was the first true WWII German figure that had been mass produced since Hasbro's German Soldier back in the 60's.
From there, I as hooked. Soon came BBI (Blue Box International) and their modern military figures, and then Hot Toys entered the game. (Yes, originally entered the toy market with 1/6 scale military figures.) Soon I was just buying parts and "kitbashing" my own figures, including making some custom gear and dioramas.
After years of collecting and kitbashing, at some point I just became.... bored. At one point I had over 300 12" figure in my collection-- and they were all on display! By then (about 6 years ago), I began to notice that many of the toy companies that had been putting out crap were suddenly putting out decent stuff again. And so, I began to turn my attention back to US retail and direct market figures-- like NECA and McFarlane-- along with getting heavily back into collecting Japanese toys-- mainly diecast robots.
Currently, I don't collect any 1/6 military figures. But with the newer companies like Soldier Story and Damtoy putting out figure like this-- bad ass, hard-core military "operators" with all the current and cutting edge gear-- I find myself wanting to pick up a few of these figures once again.
In the interest of my own interest, I share these figures with you. Who knows, maybe you've never seen anything like them before. Maybe they will stir your interest as well...
So where can you buy this figure and many, many awesome figure just like him? Try these places:
